How to Use Insights to Improve Your Facebook Fan Page Performance
Have you looked at your Facebook fan page's Insights lately? Insights is a great tracking tool that Facebook implemented so you can track your fan page's performance.
This is an invaluable tool for me in my Facebook marketing efforts.
Where can you find Insights and how can it help you strive to better your fan page?
When you go to your fan page, on the left hand side, right below your information is a small box and it gives you an overview of:
a. Monthly Active Users
b. Daily New Likes
c. Daily Post Views
d. Daily Post Feedback
Each of these shows a numerical figure and a green or red arrow to show you whether that parameter is going up or down.
A quick look at this everyday tells me whether I'm doing just OK,
good, or not so good. I must admit that I don't like seeing red arrow next to any of it (see image on the right)! Red arrows put a pressure on me…certainly in a good way!
It's a good indicator whether I need to
Having a fan page is no joke. This is a marketing tool every business must have these days and neglecting it after creation is not good (and I must admit, I have some neglected ones! Hey I'm not perfect! *Smiles*)
When you click on the link "See All" on top right hand side of this box, you will get more information such as:
a. Demographics
- Gender and Age
- Geographic Location
My personal strategy: By looking at the information above, I know how much percentage of men, women, and certain age group are on my page. I also know how many of them are located in specific country or city. This helps me craft my status updates that will increase my post feedback.
For example: Every now and then, I ask a specific group of people from other countries to interact with me by saying "Hi to my fans from (location here). Please introduce yourself with name and link to your biz page."
This kind of posts thrills them because it shows that you care about them, you would like to know them, and give them the opportunity to get their biz out there in front of your other "likers" and possibly drive traffic back to their site.
Another example is targeting your posts towards a certain gender every now and then. On my fan page, 82% of my "likers" are women. We all know that women are more emotional creatures than men. Most of my status updates trigger the emotional and psychological aspect of a woman. You will see that one hundred percent of the time comments come in from women!
b. Activities
- Page Views (includes Tab Views and External Referrers)
- Media Consumption (Audio, Video, and Photo)
The activities page also provide crucial information in your Facebook marketing. Page views and tab views tell you which has the most views on your fan page. Knowing this information helps you where you need to strategically place information that you want to put out there.
For example, if you have created a custom Facebook page welcome tab and set it as the landing page, obviously, this would be the one with the most page views (especially if you get a lot of daily new likers). So you want to put the most important information you want to get out there on that page. Retailers often use this page as landing page for promotions; network/internet marketers use this as a lead generation page where they have a free offer such as an ebook and have their opt-in form.
Bottomline is social marketing is all about developing relationships. It's all about interaction. Insights is a good indication of whether you are succeeding in your relationship marketing via your Facebook fan page. It indicates your interaction level. Whenever you see red arrows, it can put a good and positive pressure on you to make you strive in making your social marketing better!
Until then!…
