Video Marketing 101 for Newbies Part 3: How to Customize Your YouTube Channel

YouTube is no doubt the biggest video sharing site out there…but not only that, it is also, the second largest search engine next to Google.

This is the final part of our Video Marketing 101 for Newbies and if you got to this post without seeing the first two parts, see the links below:

Part 1: Why You Must Incorporate Videos in Your Social Marketing
Part 2: Tips for Creating Your First Online Video

Is there a need to customize your YouTube account? Personally, I think that you can successfully create a video marketing campaign without customizing your channel. After all, it is all about the content you provide that makes your videos viral. However, for maximum branding, professional image, and "expert status" level, it is preferred that you represent every marketing channel you have in a professional manner.

With that said, let's do the fun part! Before proceeding, make sure that you already created your YouTube account.

1. Customize Your Profile Section

Log-in to your account,on the top right hand side, click Account. Upload an image of you and completely fill out the Profile section and use the correct tags.

Why is it important to use tags? Tags are keywords that allow the site users or search engine surfers to find your channel looking for results related to that specific keywords. Make sure that you do not skip this part.

2. Customize Your Channel

a. On your top right hand side, click on your user name and then click on My Channel as demonstrated on the screenshot on the left image.

b. Click on Themes and Colors. If there is any theme that matches your branding/color scheme, then you can just pick from any of the existing ones.

c. If there isn’t, pick any theme and click on Show Advanced Options at the bottom of the Themes and Colors picker as shown below.

d. The advanced option will allow you to change colors to match your branding. Its color picker is pretty limited, however, if you know your hex color, you can always input it. If not, check out http://www.colorschemer.com/online.html to pick your colors and get the hex codes.

e. Under the Advanced Options is where you can also upload your background image.

The size of the background image for your YouTube channel should be 2000 px (width) x 3000 px (height). You can download the jpeg template here for your guidance.

There you go folks! This concludes our Video Marketing 101 for Newbies series! Hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

Until then!…
